The Effects Continue After the Session
The nature of distortion is that it "loops" and repeats in your experience until it's named, released, & resolved. Once a loop begins to dissolve and collapse, every part of your experience that was touched by that loop will begin to flow back into coherence. Sometimes, it's layer upon layer, and your own higher consciousness determines the timing of it.
